Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar as alterações das propriedades físico-químicas de diferentes espécies de flores comestíveis, no período pós-colheita. Flores de Viola cornuta (de cor clara ou escura), Viola tricolor, Antirrhinum majus, Dianthus chinensis e Tagetes patula foram selecionadas, embaladas e acondicionadas em câmara frigorífica do tipo BOD, a 5±1°C e 90–95% de umidade relativa. A cada dois dias, avaliou-se a perda de massa de matéria fresca, a qualidade visual por escala de notas e a longevidade total. Também avaliou-se o teor de sólidos solúveis (SS) totais, a acidez titulável (AT), a relação SS/AT e o pH, no momento da colheita e ao final da vida póscolheita. Houve aumento significativo nos valores de SS em V. cornuta de cor clara, V. tricolor e D. chinensis. Observou-se a redução da AT de V. cornuta de cor clara, V. tricolor, A. majus e D. chinensis ao final da vida pós-colheita. O valor do pH aumentou significativamente apenas em flores de T. patula. As espécies de flores comestíveis estudadas têm longevidade comercial curta, que varia de 4 a 10 dias, enquanto a longevidade total máxima varia de 6 a 14 dias.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the changes in the physicochemical properties of different species of edible flowers in the postharvest period. Flowers of Viola cornuta (light or dark colored), Viola tricolor, Antirrhinum majus, Dianthus chinensis, and Tagetes patula were selected, packed, and placed in a cold chamber of the BOD type, at 5±1°C and 90–95% relative humidity. Every two days, fresh weight loss, visual quality using a scale score, and total longevity were evaluated. The total soluble solids (SS) content, titratable acidity (TA), the SS/TA ratio, and pH were also evaluated at the time of harvest and at the end of postharvest life. There was a significant increase in the SS contents of light-colored V. cornuta, V. tricolor, and D. chinensis. A significant reduction in TA was observed in light-colored V. cornuta, V. tricolor, A. majus, and D. chinensis at the end of postharvest life. The pH value increased significantly only in T. patula flowers. The studied species of edible flowers have a short commercial longevity, which varies from 4 to 10 days, while the maximum total longevity varies from 6 to 14 days.

RESUMO A zínia (Zinnia elegans Jacq.) é uma planta de rápido crescimento e fácil cultivo que apresenta flores de variadas colorações. Essa espécie tem se tornado uma opção a ser introduzida comercialmente em vários países como flor de corte e sua qualidade floral é influenciada por diferentes técnicas de cultivo. Neste trabalho, nós avaliamos a produção e a qualidade de hastes florais de zínia (cv. Gigante da Califórnia Vermelha) em resposta a épocas de cultivo e níveis de irrigação. Em casa de vegetação localizada no Rio de Janeiro (Brasil), plantas de zínia foram cultivadas em dois ciclos (outono-inverno e inverno-primavera) em vasos com reposição de água correspondente a 46, 64, 75 e 100% da sua necessidade hídrica. Com base no comprimento e diâmetro de hastes e no diâmetro de flores, houve variação na qualidade das hastes florais produzidas nas épocas de cultivo avaliadas. Todas as hastes do ciclo outono-inverno foram classificadas como A1 (alta qualidade), enquanto, aproximadamente, 9% das hastes do ciclo inverno-primavera foram classificadas como A2 (média qualidade). Houve tendência de crescimento linear na produção e qualidade das hastes florais de zínia com o aumento do nível de irrigação na maioria dos casos, assim como efeito significativo dos ciclos, sendo os melhores resultados de número de hastes, peso fresco, comprimento e diâmetro de haste e diâmetro de flor encontrados no ciclo outono-inverno. As condições meteorológicas deste ciclo favorecem a produção e a qualidade de hastes florais de zínia, e a reposição de 100% da necessidade hídrica da espécie é recomendada em ambos ciclos de cultivo.

ABSTRACT Zinnia (Zinnia elegans Jacq.) is a fast-growing and easy to cultivate plant that has flowers of different colors. This species has become an option to be introduced commercially in many countries as cut flower and its floral quality is influenced by different cultivation techniques. We evaluated the production and the quality of floral stems of zinnia (cv. Red California Giant) in response to growing seasons and irrigation levels. In a greenhouse located in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), zinnia plants were grown in two cycles (autumn-winter and winter-spring) in pots with water replacement corresponding to 46, 64, 75 and 100% of their water requirement. Based on the stem length and diameter and on the flower diameter, there was variation in the quality of the stems produced in the growing seasons evaluated. All stems from the autumn-winter cycle were classified as A1 (high quality), while almost 9% of the stems from the winter-spring cycle were classified as A2 (medium quality). There was a linear growth trend in the production and quality of zinnia stems with the increase of the irrigation level in most cases, as well as significant effect of the growing seasons, with the best results of number of stems, fresh weight, length and diameter of the stem and flower diameter found in the autumn-winter cycle. The weather conditions of this cycle favor the production and quality of zinnia floral stems, and the replacement of 100% of the specie’s water requirement is recommended in both cultivation cycles.

RESUMO As flores de corte são produtos delicados cuja qualidade e longevidade dependem das condições de cultivo e pós-colheita. O trabalho foi desenvolvido objetivando-se avaliar o antocrono e a pós-colheita de hastes de gladíolo produzidas sob diferentes épocas de cultivo e níveis de irrigação. Os experimentos foram conduzidos em casa de vegetação no Estado do Rio de Janeiro (Brasil), durante os períodos de inverno/primavera de 2018 e outono/inverno de 2019. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, com quatro níveis de irrigação (45%, 60%, 80% e 100% da necessidade hídrica da cultura) e 5 repetições. O manejo da irrigação foi realizado pelo acionador automático para irrigação, instalado no tratamento 100%. A medida em que alcançavam o ponto de colheita, considerado como “mostrando a cor” dos três floretes basais, as hastes florais eram colhidas, sempre no período da manhã, e imediatamente levadas ao laboratório para padronização do tamanho (75 cm). Durante o armazenamento, as hastes foram mantidas à temperatura de 25 ºC, com a base imersa em recipiente contendo 300 mL de água. As avaliações de massa fresca, absorção de água, antocrono e longevidade foram realizadas diariamente, além de uma avaliação visual, realizada por meio de uma escala de senescência proposta. A ocorrência de déficit hídrico acentuado durante o cultivo interfere na massa fresca das hastes em pós-colheita e aumenta a velocidade de abertura das flores. A longevidade das hastes florais é reduzida quando gladíolo é produzido com o nível de irrigação de 45%. Não há diferenças significativas na longevidade das flores cultivadas nas diferentes estações e o valor do antocrono é influenciado pela disponibilidade de água, sendo menor nas hastes mantidas em condição de campo (0,70 a 0,80) em comparação à condição pós-colheita (0,83 a 0,92).

ABSTRACT Cut flowers are delicate products whose quality and longevity depends on growing and postharvest conditions. The aim of the study was to evaluate the anthochron and the postharvest of gladiolus stems produced under different growing seasons and irrigation levels. The experiments were carried out in a greenhouse in the State of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) during the winter/spring 2018 and autumn/winter 2019 periods. A randomized block design with 5 replications was used, considering irrigation levels of 45%, 60%, 80% and 100% of the crop water requirement. Irrigation management was performed by the automatic irrigation controller, installed in the 100% irrigation level treatment. As they reached the harvest point, considered to be “showing the color” of the three basal florets, the floral stems were harvested, always in the morning, and immediately taken to the laboratory for standardization of size (75 cm). During the storage period, the stems were kept at a temperature of 25 ºC, with the base immersed in a container with 300 mL of water. Fresh mass, water absorption, anthochron and longevity evaluations were performed daily, in addition to a visual evaluation, performed using a proposed senescence scale. The occurrence of severe water deficit during cultivation interferes with the fresh mass of the stems in postharvest and increases the opening speed of the flowers. The floral stems’ longevity is reduced when gladiolus is produced under the 45% irrigation level. There are no significant differences in the longevity of flowers grown in the different seasons and the anthochron value is influenced by the water availability, being lower in the stems kept in field condition (0.70 to 0.80) in comparison to the postharvest condition (0.83 to 0.92).

RESUMO O manejo da irrigação e as condições meteorológicas durante a fase de cultivo desempenham um papel essencial na manutenção da qualidade comercial de flores de corte. Este estudo avalia a necessidade de água, a sensibilidade ao déficit hídrico e a qualidade comercial do gladíolo ‹Amsterdam’ produzido com irrigação automatizada em diferentes períodos de crescimento. O delineamento experimental foi blocos casualizados com cinco repetições, composto pelo fator época de plantio (inverno/primavera de 2018 e outono/inverno de 2019) e o fator níveis de irrigação (45% - L1, 60% - L2, 80% - L3, 100% - L4 da necessidade hídrica da cultura). A irrigação foi feita com uso do acionador automático para irrigação (AAI). No ponto de colheita nós avaliamos as hastes quanto ao diâmetro, número de flores, comprimento do pendão e da haste floral. Foram realizadas também avaliações de condutância estomática, área foliar e duração das fases fenológicas em graus-dias. A aplicação de 100% da necessidade hídrica da cultura em cultivo usando o acionador automático de irrigação no outono/inverno resulta em melhor classificação comercial. O tratamento correspondente a 45% da necessidade hídrica da cultura estendeu a duração total do ciclo do gladíolo. Hastes florais de melhor qualidade comercial são obtidas com 100% da necessidade hídrica da cultura durante o cultivo de outono/inverno.

ABSTRACT Water management and meteorological conditions during the cropping phase play an essential role in maintaining the commercial quality of cut flowers. This study evaluates water requirement, sensitivity to water deficit, and commercial quality of gladiolus ‘Amsterdam’ produced with automated irrigation in different growing periods. The experimental design was in randomized blocks with five replicates and consisted of the growing period factors (winter/spring 2018 and autumn/winter 2019) and the irrigation level factors (45% - L1, 60% - L2, 80% - L3, and 100% - L4 of crop water requirement). An automatic irrigation controller was used for irrigation management. At the harvest point, we evaluated the stems for the diameter, number of flowers, spike length, and floral stem length. We also evaluated stomatal conductance, leaf area, and duration of phenological phases on degree-days. The application of 100% crop water requirement using an automatic irrigation controller in the autumn/winter cycle results in better commercial classification. The treatment with 45% of the crop water requirement extended the total duration of the cycle. In conclusion, flower stems of better commercial classification are obtained with 100% of crop water requirement during the autumn/winter cycle.

Resumo A zínia (Zinnia elegans Jacq.) é uma planta ornamental utilizada na composição da paisagem e apresenta grande potencial para o cultivo como flor de corte, plantas envasadas ou plantas atrativas com grande potencial para aumentar a diversidade de insetos em sistemas agroecológicos de cultivo. Diante da nova tendência de produção integrada de flores, que propõe práticas ambientalmente corretas visando a sustentabilidade do sistema produtivo é necessário determinar substratos alternativos que permitam a produção de mudas de qualidade. Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o vigor e a qualidade de mudas de zínia produzidas em substratos alternativos em bandejas de diferentes tamanhos de células. Dois tipos diferentes de bandejas de poliestireno expandido foram testados como se segue: bandeja de 128 células e 200 células com um volume de 40 cm3 e 16 cm3 por célula, respectivamente. Para o crescimento das mudas, foram testados três tipos de substrato: substrato comercial; compostagem de resíduos orgânicos na proporção de 1:1:1 (v:v:v). O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, em arranjo fatorial 3x2 (substrato x tamanho de bandeja celular), com quatro repetições e oito plântulas por repetição. As características fitotecnicas avaliadas foram altura de plantas, número de folhas, comprimento de raízes e peso seco de platntas; vigor das mudas e a estabilidade do torrão foram determinados através de escalas de notas. As propriedades físicas e fisicoquímicas do substrato orgânico possibilita a produção de plantas de qualidade em bandejas de 128 células, no entanto as bandejas de 200 células também produz mudas de qualidade, tendo como vantagem o uso de menores volumes de substratos.

Abstract The zinnia (Zinnia elegans Jacq.) is an ornamental plant used in landscape composition and presents great potential for cultivation as a cut flower, potted. Faced with the new trend of integrated flower production, that proposes more environmentally friendly practices aiming at sustainability, there is a need to determine alternative substrates that allow the production of quality seedlings. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the vigor and quality of zinnia seedlings produced in alternative substrates in trays with different cell size. Two different types of trays of expanded polystyrene with different cell size were tested as following: 128-cell and 200-cell trays with a volume of 40 cm3 and 16 cm3, respectively. For the growth of the seedlings, three types of substrate were tested: commercial substrate; composting of organic waste; mixture of sand, soil and carbonized rice husk in the proportion of 1:1:1 (v:v:v). The experiment was a completely randomized design, using 24 trays in a factorial arrangement 3x2 (substrate x tray cell size), with four replicate and eight seedling per replicate. The phytotechnical characteristics evaluated were plant height, number of leaves, root length and dry weight of plants, the vigor of seedlings and clod stability was determined by rating scales. The physicochemical and physical proprieties of organic substrate enables produce high quality seedling using 128-cell trays, but the 200-cell trays also produce good quality seedling, having the advantage of using smaller volumes of substrates.

Resumo O arbusto de mamalade [Streptosolen jamesonii (Benth.) Miers] é uma espécie ornamental com grande potencial de uso em jardins; estas plantas têm um intenso contraste de cores entre flores e folhas e sua floração ocorre em praticamente todas as estações do ano. Esta planta é propagada principalmente por estacas de caule, mas a propagação vegetativa desta planta ainda é pouco conhecida. O conhecimento sobre as ações de auxinas e substratos no enraizamento de estacas pode ser útil para o cultivo e promoção da popularização dessas plantas para fins de ornamentação de jardins. Por isso, objetivou-se nesse trabalho avaliar efeito do uso de ácido indolbitírico (IBA) e substratos sobre o enraizamento de estacas caulinares do arbusto marmelada. Os tratamentos foram arranjados em esquema fatorial (5x3) no delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com oito repetições, com uma estaca por repetição. O fator A foi constituído de quatro concentrações de IBA: 500 mg L−1; 1000 mg L−1; 2000 mg L−1 e 3000 mg L−1, mais uma testemunha 0 mg L−1 (água destilada sem IBA); o fator B constituiu-se dos substratos vermiculita, areia e substrato comercial Plantmax®. A unidade amostral foi constituída de uma estaca herbácea padronizada com 10 cm de comprimento e seis folhas. O tratamento do caule consistiu em submergir os 3 cm basais durante 1 min na solução contendo IBA, sendo posteriormente estaqueadas nos substratos vermiculita, areia ou substrato comercial. Após 30 dias do estaqueamento foram avaliados a porcentagem de enraizamento e sobrevivência de estacas, o número de raízes e brotações, o comprimento das raízes e das brotações e o peso fresco das raízes e brotações. As doses de IBA ou os substratos não afetam o enraizamento ou a sobrevivência das estacas, no entanto mudas de melhor qualidade são obtidas em estacas tratadas com 750 a 1456 mg L−1 IBA em substrato comercial Plantmax® onde o maior número de raízes e o maior desenvolvimento de raiz e novas brotações são obtidos.

Abstract The mamalade shrub [Streptosolen jamesonii (Benth.) Miers] is an ornamental species with great potential of use in gardens. These plants have an intense contrast of colors among the flowers and leaves, being the blooming in all seasons during the year. The propagation of this species is mainly by using stem cuttings, besides the vegetative propagation of mamalade is still poorly known. Thus, knowledge about auxins and substrates for rooting may be important for the cultivation and increase the popularization use of these plants for garden purposes. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of indolbutiric acid (IBA) and substrates on stem rooting and quality of marmalade bush plants shoot production. The experimental design was completely randomized, in a 5x3 factorial scheme, with 8 replications and one stem per plot. The A Factor consisted of 4 concentrations of IBA 500; 1000; 2000 and 3000 mg L-1 and control (only distilled water). The B factor consisted of the substrates: vermiculite, sand and one commercial -Plantmax®. The herbaceous cuttings were standardized by length, measuring 10 cm with 6 leaves. The treatment was performed submerging the base of the cutting, 3 cm, in an IBA solution for 1 min and then planted in the tested substrates. After 30 days, there were evaluated the percentage of rooting and surviving of the cuttings, number of roots and shoots, length of roots and shoots; length of roots and shoots, and fresh weight of roots and shoots. The IBA concentrations or the substrates do not affect the rooting or survival of the cuttings, however, better quality plantlets are obtained in cuttings treated with 750 to 1456 mg L-1 IBA using the commercial substrate Plantmax®, showing the highest number of roots and the better root and shoots development.

Este trabalho objetivou determinar o melhor tratamento pré-germinativo de sementes e a profundidade de semeadura mais adequada para a produção de mudas de Erythrina verna. Para isso, os seguintes tratamentos pré-germinativos foram estudados: testemunha (sementes intactas), escarificação mecânica na região oposta ao hilo com auxílio de lixa no 80, escarificação mecânica na região da rafe com auxílio de lixa no 80, embebição em água por 24 horas. Em um segundo experimento, as sementes foram semeadas nas profundidades de 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 e 6 cm. Após 15 dias avaliou-se a porcentagem de emergência, índice de velocidade de emergência, comprimento da parte aérea e comprimento da raiz das plântulas, massa seca de parte aérea e massa seca de raiz das plântulas. As sementes de Erythrina verna apresentam dormência tegumentar que pode ser superada pela escarificação mecânica na região oposta ao hilo. As plântulas apresentam a melhor qualidade fisiológica quando as sementes são semeadas à profundidade de 1 a 3 cm, onde a maior porcentagem de emergência, índice de velocidade de emergência, comprimento da parte aérea e da raiz e massa seca da parte aérea são obtidos.

Este estudo objetivou estabelecer um protocolo de micropropagação de Syngonanthus elegans. A germinação das sementes em meios WPM contendo 0, 25, 50, 75 e 100% da concentração de sal foi avaliada. O estabelecimento de plântulas em meio WPM ou MS, diluídos a 50 ou 100% foi estudado. A adição de 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 e 30 g L-1 de sacarose no meio WPM foi avaliada. Os efeitos de TDZ (0,0, 0,5, 1,0, 2,0 e 4,0 mg L-1) e ANA (0,0, 0,5 e 1,0 mg L-1) em todas as combinações possíveis foram investigadas. Os substratos areia, vermiculita ou PlantmaxTM foram avaliados na aclimatação direta ou pré-aclimatação de plantas. A germinação de sementes de S. elegans não foi influenciada pela concentração de sal, mas a velocidade de germinação foi afetada. O meio WPM com 17 g L-1 de sacarose é recomendado para o estabelecimento de plântulas. Formação de calo ocorre em presença de 0,5 ou 1,0 mg L-1 de ANA, na ausência de TDZ, ou quando mesmas concentrações de ANA e TDZ foram adicionados. Brotos foram mais frequentemente produzidos quando 0,5+0,5 mg L-1 ou 1,0+1,0 mg L-1 de ANA e TDZ foram utilizados. As plantas tiveram porcentagem de sobrevivência de 25,6% após a climatização.

The research aimed to establish a protocol of micropropagation of Syngonanthus elegans. Seed germination in WPM media containing 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% salt concentrations was evaluated. Establishment of plantlets in WPM and MS media, with 50 or 100% salt concentrations, was studied. The addition of 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 g L-1 of sucrose in WPM media was evaluated. The effects of TDZ (0.0; 0.5; 1.0; 2.0 and 4.0 mg L-1) and ANA (0.0; 0.5 and 1.0 mg L-1) in all possible combinations were investigated. To test acclimatization, sand, PlantmaxTM or vermiculite substrates were evaluated by direct acclimatization and pre-acclimatization. The germination of S. elegans seeds was not influenced by salt concentration in the culture media, but the germination speed was affected. The WPM medium with 17 g L-1 of sucrose is recommended for establishment of plantlets. Callus formation occurs in presence of 0.5 or 1.0 mg L-1 of NAA, in absence of TDZ, or when same concentrations of NAA and TDZ were added. Sprouts were most frequently produced when 0.5+0.5 mg L-1 or 1.0+1.0 mg L-1 of NAA and TDZ were used. The S. elegans plants had survival rate was 25.6% after acclimatization.

A espécie Syngonanthus elegantulus Ruhland é uma importante planta nativa usada como flor de corte, mas sua exploração extrativista tem causado risco de extinção. Assim, neste estudo, objetivou-se estabelecer um protocolo de micropropagação de S. elegantulus. Para isso, a germinação das sementes foi testada em meio WPM, contendo diferentes concentrações de sais. Para o estabelecimento de plântulas, os meios MS e WPM foram avaliados com 50% e 100% de concentração de sais. Diferentes níveis de sacarose em meio WPM também foram avaliados. Para a multiplicação de plântulas, foram inoculadas em meio WPM adicionado de 0,0, 0,5, 1,0, 2,0 e 4,0 mg L-1 de TDZ e 0,0, 0,5, 1,0 mg L-1 de NAA em todas as combinações possíveis. O efeito da pré-aclimatização de plântulas foi testado nos substratos areia, plantmaxTM e vermiculite. A concentração do meio não influenciou a porcentagem de germinação, mas o índice de velocidade de germinação foi inversamente proporcional à adição de nutrientes. O melhor meio para o estabelecimento de plântulas foi o WPM, na concentração de sais originais, adicionado a 17 g L-1 de sacarose. Para a indução de calo, a adição de 0,5 e 1,0 mg L-1 de NAA foi recomendada. O maior número de brotos foi obtido na presença de 1,0 mg L-1 de TDZ ou combinando 1,0 mg L-1 de TDZ com 0,5 mg de L-1 de ANA. S. elegantulus apresentaram maior sobrevivência quando aclimatadas diretamente na areia.

The species Syngonanthus elegantulus Ruhland is an important native plant used as cut flowers, but extractive exploration has caused the endangered status of this plant. Therefore, the objective of this study was to establish a protocol of the micropropagation of S. elegantulus. To this end, seed germination was tested in media containing different concentrations of WPM salts. For plantlet establishment, MS and WPM media were evaluated with 50 and 100% of the salt concentrations. Different the sucrose levels in the WPM medium were also evaluated. For multiplication, the plantlets were inoculated in WPM media with 0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 4.0 mg L-1 TDZ and 0.0, 0.5 and 1.0 mg L-1 NAA in all possible combinations. The pre-acclimatization effect was tested in the plantlets using the following substrates: sand, PlantmaxTM and vermiculite. The concentration of the medium did not influence the percentage of germination, but the germination speed index was inversely proportional to the nutrient addition to the culture medium. The best medium for plantlet establishment was WPM at the original salt concentration plus 17 g L-1 sucrose. The addition of 0.5 and 1.0 mg L-1 NAA is recommended for callus induction. The highest number of shoots was obtained in the presence of 1.0 mg L-1 TDZ or the combination of 1.0 mg L-1 TDZ with 0.5 mg L-1 NAA. S. elegantulus presented higher survival when acclimatized directly in sand.

Pilosocereus aurisetus é uma espécie de cactos de importância econômica e ambiental que se encontra em risco de extinção. A propagação em áreas naturais ocorre, principalmente, de forma sexuada; entretanto, não há registro da germinação e viabilidade de sementes e morfologia pós-seminal de plântulas dessa espécie. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar a germinação de sementes e descrever a morfologia do desenvolvimento pós-seminal de plântulas de P. aurisetus. Para isso, sementes, armazenadas em condições ambientais por 19 meses, foram submetidas aos tratamentos: embebição em água por 24 horas; pré-resfriamento; imersão em solução de giberelina, nas concentrações de 250 mg L-1 e 500 mg L-1; e um tratamento controle. As sementes foram colocadas para germinar em meio de cultura MS, por 30 dias, quando se avaliou a percentagem de germinação. O delineamento estatístico foi o inteiramente casualizado, com cinco tratamentos e quatro repetições, sendo dispostas 25 sementes por parcela. A caracterização pós-seminal foi realizada por um período de 60 dias, utilizando-se microscópio binocular, com base nas Regras para Análise de Sementes. Maior percentagem da germinação de sementes ocorreu no controle, ou quando embebidas por 24 horas, sendo observados 90% e 83%, respectivamente. A morfologia do desenvolvimento pós-seminal indicou que a germinação é do tipo epígea, com hipocótilo de reserva; suas plântulas sofrem modificações na região do colo, para a emissão de raízes, e apresentam cerdas no ápice caulinar, mesmo na fase inicial da expansão cotiledonar. A diferenciação e início da formação das costelas iniciam-se aos 60 dias após a germinação, com o desenvolvimento do epicótilo.

Pilosocereus aurisetus is a species of cactus of economic and environmental importance, but the predatory exploitation led the species to be listed as threatened with extinction. P. aurisetus propagation occurs mainly in natural environment by sexual reproduction, though there is no record of germination, viability and morphology of post-seminal seeds of this species. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the germination and describe the morphology of post-seminal development of seeds of P. aurisetus. For this purpose, seeds stored at ambient conditions for 19 months were treated as follows: soaking in water for 24 hours, pre-cooling, soaking in solution of gibberellin in concentrations of 250 mg L-1 and 500 mg L-1 and a control. The seeds were germinated on MS medium for 30 days, when the germination percentage was evaluated. The statistical design was completely randomized with five treatments and four replications with 25 seeds per plot. The post-seminal characterization was performed for a period of 60 days using a stereomicroscope based on the International Rules for Testing Seeds. A higher percentage of germination was observed in the control or when soaked for 24 hours, with 90% and 83% respectively. The morphology of the post-seminal seeds indicated that the P. aurisetus germination is epigeous with reservation hypocotyl, seedlings changes lap region to emit roots and bristles present in shoot apex even in early stages of cotyledon expansion. The early differentiation and the formation of the ribs begin 60 days after germination with the development of the epicotyl.

O estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a influência da qualidade fisiológica de diferentes lotes de sementes de rúcula (Eruca sativa L.) no desenvolvimento inicial e na produção comercial. Avaliou-se a qualidade fisiológica das sementes mediante testes de germinação, primeira contagem de germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação, comprimento da raiz primária e da parte aérea, massa fresca e seca de plântulas. Aos 10 dias após a semeadura em campo, avaliou-se a percentagem de emergência, comprimento de raiz e da parte aérea, massa fresca e seca das plântulas. Aos 35 dias após a semeadura, foram avaliados o número de folhas, número de folhas maiores que dez centímetros, massa fresca e seca das plantas. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado utilizando-se quatro tratamentos (lotes) e quatro repetições. Quanto à qualidade fisiológica das sementes de rúcula, houve estratificação dos lotes, sendo que os mais vigorosos possibilitaram o maior desenvolvimento de raiz e da parte aérea aos 10 dias após a semeadura, entretanto a qualidade fisiológica das sementes não influenciou na produção comercial da cultura.

The study had as objective evaluates the influence of different physiologic quality seeds of Eruca sativa L. in the initial development and in the commercial production. It was evaluated the physiological quality of seeds by tests of germination, first count, speed of germination-index, root length and shoot, fresh and dry weight of seedlings. At 10 days after sowing in the field, the percentage of emergence, root length and shoot, fresh and dry plants was estimated. After 35 days of sowing, the number of leaves, number of leaves greater than 10 cm, fresh and dry plants was evaluated. A randomized complete block design was used with four treatments (lots) and four replications. There was stratification of lots on the physiological quality of rocket seeds. The seeds vigorous possible the further development of root and shoot at ten days after the sowing, however the physiological quality of seeds didn't affect the commercial production of the culture.
